Cyclone Freddy’s devastation in March 2023 left many Malawian families displaced and homeless. Othakarhaka Foundation, in conjunction with IDI Africa, has been working tirelessly to restore hope and stability to those affected. In May 2024, we handed over two beautiful houses to families whose lives were transformed by the #MonthlyHouseProject initiative.
From Devastation to Hope: The Story of Esther Moleni and Her Family
Esther Moleni and her family from Manjomo village in Mulanje district faced unimaginable hardship after losing their home to Cyclone Freddy. The storm’s wrath left them without a roof over their heads, adding immense stress to their daily struggles. However, hope arrived in the form of Othakarhaka volunteers and IDI Africa. Through the #MonthlyHouseProject, Esther’s family received the support they desperately needed. They are no longer homeless; they have a safe and secure place to call home again.
Mai Alena and Her Daughters Find Stability in a New Home
Another inspiring story comes from Mai Alena, a single mother of two daughters. Their home in Manjomo village was destroyed by Cyclone Freddy, forcing the family of eight to seek temporary shelter. Living in cramped and uncertain conditions added another layer of hardship to their lives.
However, thanks to the #MonthlyHouseProject and the incredible support of IDI Africa, Mai Alena and her daughters can finally breathe a sigh of relief. Othakarhaka has built them a modern home, providing a safe and secure space for them to rebuild their lives. This new home offers not just shelter, but also a sense of stability and hope for the future.
Thank you IDI!
