Tricia’s journey is a story of determination, and the power of an opportunity. After facing stigma following the loss of sight in her right eye as a child, she refused to let her disability define her future. Instead, her experiences inspired her to pursue a career in law so she could advocate for human rights and others facing discrimination.
Through Othakarhaka Foundation’s Education Sponsorship Program, with support from I Demand Access (IDA), Tricia was able to pursue her studies. She has now graduated with a Diploma in Law from the Malawi School of Government, becoming the first student in Othakarhaka’s sponsorship program to pursue a career in law.
For Tricia, education has been more than a pathway to a qualification. It has given her the opportunity to turn difficult experiences into a purpose. She hopes to use her legal knowledge to advocate for human rights and help create a society where people are not limited by disability or circumstance.
Her achievement reflects what is possible when young women are given the opportunity to pursue their education and believe in their potential. Today, Tricia stands as a someone ready to begin the next chapter of her journey, one that she hopes will allow her to use her voice and knowledge to make a difference in the lives of others.
