In 2025, 152 students from disadvantaged backgrounds sat for our annual entrance exam, a rigorous yet hopeful opportunity for young learners across rural Mulanje. From this determined group, we are proud to welcome 74 new students into our secondary school sponsorship program. This incredible achievement was made possible through the generous support of our partners: 43 students were sponsored by I Demand Access, 31 students by Elizabeth Lashley Haynes and friends, and 7 boys by Dr. Don Lightfoot.
Each of these contributions represents more than financial support, they are investments in potential, acts of compassion, and steps toward breaking educational barriers. Together, we are not only transforming individual lives but also uplifting entire communities and shaping a brighter future for Malawi.

This intake represents the largest group selected at this stage of the year, reflecting both growing demand and the expanding impact of our work in rural education.
Since launching the scholarship program in 2013, Othakarhaka has supported more than 1,000 secondary school students through full sponsorship, covering tuition, school materials, uniforms, and mentorship. Many of our former beneficiaries are now in public universities across Malawi, while others are already giving back to their communities as volunteers, mentors, and changemakers.

Each student represents more than just academic potential, they carry the hopes of their families and communities. We remain committed to nurturing their success, providing not just financial support, but also mentorship, leadership development, and encouragement along the way.
At Othakarhaka, we believe that education is the most powerful form of kindness we can pass on. Every scholarship we offer is a seed of hope, one that grows into resilience, knowledge, and purpose.
To our new students: Welcome to the OTK family.
And to our supporters, especially Elizabeth Lashley Haynes: thank you for helping us build a future where every child has a chance to learn, lead, and thrive.
