Planting Trees, Strengthening Communities, Restoring Nature

As a volunteer-based organisation, we at Othakarhaka Foundation are dedicated to advancing sustainable solutions that empower communities, strengthen natural resources, and promote environmental stewardship.

In many rural Malawian areas, forests continue to shrink. This creates multiple challenges, including longer distances to fetch firewood, reduced biodiversity, and increased vulnerability of the land. Since launching our tree-planting initiative in 2014, our goal has been to restore community forests, bring critical green resources back home, and engage every member of the community in that effort.

Our volunteers, both women and men across the communities we serve, are preparing new seedlings that will soon be transplanted across the areas we support. Each tree planted not only replenishes our forests but helps build stronger ecosystems, supports cleaner air and soil, and reduces the burden on community members who rely on natural resources.

By working together, we are taking meaningful steps toward sustainable community development and paving the way for a greener, more equitable future for all.
