For almost a decade, the Othakarhaka Foundation has worked to ensure vulnerable families in Mulanje’s remote communities can access healthcare that is community-led, close to home, and responsive to their everyday realities. Today, we’re excited to share a major milestone: the expansion of the Othakarhaka Community Clinic to better serve children in our surrounding villages.
Our community clinic has long provided essential services, including reproductive healthcare for women, cervical cancer screening, primary care, and home based palliative support for chronically ill patients. These services reach women, men, and young people who would otherwise walk long distances or go without care.
Thanks to the generosity of the Bochner family, through I Demand Access, we are remodeling the clinic to include a dedicated paediatric corner. This safe, welcoming space will provide early stimulation, basic medical care, and attentive support for babies and young children.
This expansion is particularly targeting children of teen mothers we have rescued from child marriages and enrolled in our education program, and other children who lost their mother’s during or after birth. By bringing care closer to home, we aim to ensure every child, regardless of circumstance, has the support they need to thrive.
While remodeling continues, our mission remains unchanged: to provide accessible, community rooted healthcare built on compassion. With every step, we honor the spirit of Othakarhaka—passing on the kindness, and continue building a healthier future for families in Mulanje.
