In a sounding commitment to fostering a greener Malawi, Othakarhaka Foundation has significantly stepped up its preparations for the 2023-2024 Tree Planting Season. The preparations which began in October 2023 have witnessed an inspiring gathering of diverse community volunteers at all of Othakarhaka’s Tree Nurseries. The collective presence of the elderly, women, girls, and boys has been a beautiful example of the shared responsibility of each individual to revive and preserve our community environments.
Some of the volunteers are students under education scholarships who are inspired to not only help in the reforestation of their environments but also pass on the kindness shown to them through the education scholarships.
The Foundation extends its heartfelt gratitude to the passionate volunteers who continue to join hands in this collective endeavor of our reafforestration drive every year. Their dedication and unwavering support are instrumental in advancing Othakarhaka’s Agroforestry vision in Malawi. Each volunteer’s contribution is a testament to their commitment to safeguarding the environment and nurturing a sustainable ecosystem for now and generations to come.
Since its inception in 2013, Othakarhaka’s Agroforestry initiative has been a driving force for positive and sustainable agroforestry in Mulanje, Malawi. Over the years, the initiative has made a significant impact, planting over 1 million trees across schools, river banks, and various catchments around the Mulanje Mountain area.
