Othakarhaka Foundation Leads Tree Planting

The Othakarhaka Foundation in January joined Malawi’s National Forestry Season, taking practical action to support schools, communities, and public institutions in caring for the environment.
Through our Tree Planting Programme, we worked with four schools across different districts. At Thuchira Community Day Secondary School and Chisitu Community Day Secondary School, teachers and students came together to plant over 1,500 trees in a single day. At Phalombe Secondary School, 1,000 trees were planted, and at Namalowe Community Day Secondary School, 700 trees were planted. In total, the programme brought 3,200 new trees to communities across Malawi.
Seeing learners, teachers, and community members work side by side was inspiring. Their energy and commitment reminded us that climate action is most effective when led by the community. For Othakarhaka Foundation, planting trees is just the beginning. We continue to care for them, monitor their growth, and work with communities to ensure these trees thrive and make a lasting impact.
We are especially grateful to our volunteers, who nurtured the seedlings in our community nurseries and continue to care for them after planting. As Malawi works to restore its forests and tackle climate challenges, Othakarhaka Foundation remains committed to standing with schools, communities, and partners to create greener, healthier spaces for the future. 💚
