From Rural Village to Digital Dreams: Jonathan’s Journey with Othakarhaka

Jonathan Thom grew up in Salamu Village, Mulanje. Life was not easy. His family could not afford to support him through secondary school. Despite the challenges, Jonathan was determined to succeed and make the most of every opportunity.

He attended Chambe Day Secondary School, where he worked hard and showed great promise. In his MSCE exams, he scored 13 points, becoming one of the top students in his school. His dedication and perseverance were clear signs of his potential.

Through Othakarhaka ’s education sponsorship, Jonathan received support to continue his studies. He joined the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) to pursue a Bachelor of Information & Technology. This was his first encounter with a computer, but he quickly adapted and excelled in his studies.

Jonathan dreams of building his own software company. He also hopes to support underprivileged young people in his village, giving back the kindness he received from the Foundation. His journey shows how opportunity, combined with hard work, can transform lives and inspire others.

Jonathan’s story is a reminder of why Othakarhaka Foundation is committed to promoting digital inclusion and education for all. He is proof that one act of support can spark a lifetime of achievement and impact.
