Othakarhaka Foundation has officially opened its paediatric clinic, marking an important step in strengthening access to healthcare within the communities we serve.
The clinic comes after months of restructuring our existing community clinic space, sourcing essential medicines, and receiving support from partners and well-wishers who contributed towards making this initiative possible.
While the clinic will serve children from surrounding communities, it was developed with a specific group in mind, the children of teen mothers under our sponsorship program. When these young mothers return to school, their children are often left in the care of different caregivers. This clinic is one way of ensuring that those children still have access to consistent care and support during that time.
The space has been set up to respond to practical needs, while also creating a more welcoming environment for children. Contributions such as toys and other child-friendly additions have helped make the clinic more comfortable for those who will use it.
This initiative has been made possible with support from partners including Arthur Bochner, News Corp, and I Demand Access, whose contributions have supported the development of this space. We also acknowledge the role of our volunteer, Matthew Pang, who dedicated his time and effort towards helping bring the clinic to life.
While the clinic is now open, there is still more needed to fully equip and expand its capacity. This remains an ongoing effort as we continue working towards improving healthcare access for children in the community.
At Othakarhaka Foundation, this clinic represents a practical response to a real need ensuring that children are supported, even as their mothers take steps to continue their education.
