In Mulanje District, Grades Mussa, a mother of five, has faced years of uncertainty.
Her home was destroyed during the Cyclone Freddy. As her family worked to rebuild, their temporary shelter was lost again during Cyclone Jude. Since then, she and her children have been living in rented accommodation, with some small support from church and well-wishers and herself struggled to add small money to it by doing peace works in other people’s farms.
Through the Bricks of Hope Housing Project, Othakarhaka Foundation has officially handed over a new home to Grades and her family. The house provides a safe and stable place for them to begin again.
For the first time within the project, the home has also been fitted with solar panels and lighting, made possible with support from Zuwa Energy. This addition ensures that the family now has reliable access to light and that the children will be able to study even when it gets dark.
As part of the handover, trees were planted around the home through the Foundation’s tree planting initiative, contributing to a healthier environment for the household and the wider community.

This home represents more than shelter. It is a step toward stability for Grades and her children, and a foundation from which they can begin to rebuild their lives.
The Bricks of Hope Housing Project is implemented in partnership with IDI Africa, whose continued support makes this work possible.
At Othakarhaka Foundation, each home built is part of a wider commitment to support families in practical ways, and to create opportunities for them to move forward and, in time, pass on the kindness.
