Caroline Malenga almost saw her dream of attaining a Philosophy of Doctorate Degree shuttering before she her eyes, when her fees and other expenses at Providence Girls Secondary School increasingly became too much for her poor mother to afford.
Each passing day, she could feel the pain of losing out of becoming one of the most educated young women in her community. To her, the more her mother complained about their lack of capacity to make her stay in school, the more she became frustrated.
“My mother and I became very worried as we did not know how I would be able to complete my secondary school studies,”
The simple-looking 20-year-old recalls.
Thanks to intervention by Othakarhaka (OTK) Charity Foundation with support from I Demand Access, Caroline’s hopes of re-living her dreams were restored.
Today, Caroline is on her path of realizing her dreams, as she is now pursuing a Bachelor’s of Pharmacy (Honours) at the prestigious Kamuzu University of Health Sciences and she is so much determined to make the most of this opportunity as a girl and aspire to continue her education up to the PhD level. She says her dream is to become a part of the community of scientists who engage in researching and discovering medicines for various pandemics that currently lack a cure and be able to help those in need.
